We spend some time discussing the Yawning Portal Wagerboard, where we learn that there is a rival party on there:

We talk to Lady Yafeera about hiring sellswords and she recommends the Fearless Five of Phandalin: Patrice, George, Fogor, Fixelnick, & Zesh. We agree to pay 20GP + 10GP transport to/from the Yawning Portal
We try to discuss the plan with Rex, but he is just being a giant asshat. He doesn't like any ideas at all, and insists we all attack the Xanathar Thieves Guild at the Goblin Market in one big group.
After a lot of this, we tell him to sod off and he sulks away. We discuss the plan with the Fearless Five. Rex comes back over and after a few false-starts begins behaving himself. We finalize a plan and head in.
When we see the situation on the ground, we modify the plan to use summoned Pixies to cast sleep on the guards and then lure them into a fireball. Rex agrees to the plan, but jumps the gun, making everyone react chaotically.
Copper Stormforge attacks Rex the Hammer, surprising everyone.
We sleep, confuse and lay waste to the bugbears. Ceol hits Copper Stormforge with the Spear of Lightning and an Intellect Devourer pops out of his head, then Tearulai polymorphs the Bugbear Chief into a turtle.
The Fearless Five inexplicably run, followed shortly thereafter by Rex the Hammer leaving us to fight alone.
As the last bugbear falls, Rex & the Fearless Five return and attack us us. Arin immediately casts Hold Person on Rex allowing Ceol to run him through multiple times. He breaks free, but is immediately Held again. Ceol strikes the final blow.
Jitters casts Rimes Binding Ice on the Fearless Five locking all but Zesh into place. They surrender, but Gimbal kills Zesh in a fit of pique. We disarm them and loot them while we decide their fate. Their only excuse for treachery is that Rex was willing to pay more.
We find Yek's room which has a diorama of 6 goblins in costume jewelry defeating a beholder (Xanathar), a painting of Yek, and a chest of loot.
We also loot the Xanathar guards & the Fearless Five before setting them free to return to Waterdeep.
When Ceol removes the Circlet of Human Perfection from Yek, his corpse reverts to a goblin form.
